Walking in Wales

Jane and I enjoyed a couple of days with friends near Barmouth, along the Welsh coast near Dolgellau. This is a view across the estuary from where we were staying to the southern edge of Barmouth:

Looking towards Barmouth

We went on walks on both Friday and Saturday — nothing particularly epic in terms of distance but a lot more up and down than the landscape around Oxford! On the Friday we took a circular route leading up to the lakes below the northern face of Cader Idris before descending alongside Afon Gwynant and back to base along the edge of the estuary. On Saturday we walked round the other side, climbing above Barmouth to a panoramic viewing point and then circling back round to the town via high moors and an abandoned village (which I think was called Cell Fechan, an abandoned manganese mining outpost from the start of the 20th century).

I lugged my camera with me on both walks so there are more photos to come (click the image above for the first fruits).
