One Downside of a Polytunnel

It has been good growing weather recently, fairly bright, fairly warm and, in the tradition of British summer, fairly damp. I love it when the sun comes out but even a gray day with ongoing bouts of mild precipitation (yes, today, I’m talking about you!) is good because it keeps the garden watered. All, that is, apart from what is growing in the polytunnel.

I suppose we could install an automatic irrigation system but, since it it is only a relatively small tunnel, I can live with hauling a few cans from one of our water butts. At least it is a chance to monitor how things are growing (and enjoy the distinctive scent of tomato foliage – one of the crops that benefits immensely from the extra warmth and protection the tunnel provides).
