The days are drawing in and the temperature is now frequently dropping to freezing or below at night so we are getting into a different phase of gardening and one where a good-weathered weekend is an opportunity not to miss.
The couple of days just past were one such weekend and we got plenty done. On Saturday a good proportion of the work involved going to a nearby garden centre and picking up several new plants (mainly fruit bushes) and material for building some raised beds. Yesterday, we worked all afternoon tidying up the space down the side of the polytunnel and putting the new bushes in (as well as propagating the existing gooseberry).
We are definitely getting to the stage when there is less call for playing with plants but where sunny weather is a chance to press forward with the hard landscaping aspects of the work.
