Although the traditional edible quince is a different plant entirely, the Japanese Flowering Quince (Chaenomeles japonica) still produces edible fruit with the bonus of beautiful flowers. The relatively compact size will fit well along the fence at the back of the garden where the sharp thorns will double up on security duty!
