Desaturation Methods

I am getting more mileage out of the photos I took for last week’s 7 Days run. In a discussion on the Digital Photography School forums I was asked if I could compare my manual method for turning a colour photo into black and white with the use of the simple desaturation. The image above shows my results along with the three modes available in The Gimp’s desaturation tool. I think handcrafting wins out every time.
