I upgraded the Linux portion of my laptop yesterday from Ubuntu 6.06 to Ubuntu 8.04. Aficionados of this popular distro may be questioning why I didn’t choose 8.10, the current release which came out at the end of last week? The reasons are that 8.04, which I’ve been using at work for six months, is a “long term support” release and also that it looks like the newer version calls for 256MB RAM as a minimum, which suggests it would be pushing the poor old machine a bit.
So, 8.04 it is and I’m now at work customising it for my tastes.
