Recording with The Elusive Teeth – II

Just a short post post this morning as I am still tired from yesterday’s late session recording with The Elusive Teeth. We added corrections and further refinements to each of the four tracks we recorded on Sunday but decided, in the end, that we wanted to take more time to listen to what we have so far before committing the project to a final mix.

Orange and Blue use a Mac-based system running Logic for recording and our engineer, Malcolm, is an expert at using the program for editing fine details. Listening back to the rough mix I had identified several glitches on the bass part so I took my gear down with me; in the end, I didn’t need it as all the fixes could be done in the system. Sometimes a better version of a riff could be lifted from elsewhere in the track or one of the alternative takes (we took at least a couple of each tune to give us this flexibility). Minor timing issues could be fixed by sliding a rushed or delayed note into place and, for one passage, we were even able to alter one note in the middle of a run to better fit the chord it sat against.

We are not quite ready to unveil the results but are increasingly confident that we will have some tracks worth listening to when we do.
