The Review
I am sure there will be some parents who buy this for their little princess and who are thus going to get a bit of a surprise. The cover is pink, Krystal Meyers looks sweet and angelic and the disk itself has a great big heart on the middle. It is going to be cute, right?
Think again. The eyeliner and nose-stud should have been a clue and, as the first track begins, you are left in no doubt that this is music to mosh to. Thunderous, bone-crunching, rocking; Meyer’s relatively sweet vocals keep this just on the borders of pop-rock territory but even that contribution sounds passionate rather than pre-processed.
Lyrically, the songs cover a range of worries (loneliness, peer pressure, etc) contrasted with themes of surrendering to and rejoicing in God. Some might find them a bit teen-aged in their slant but they are good and wholesome, even if not as chewy as the music of the album.
If you are buying a present for a little princess who seems to be moving from pink to punk and you want to provide good influences through thunderous music, then this is a fantastic choice. More generally, it does not stand out as unmissable but is definitely worth a listen if you are looking for music to let your hair down to.
Standout Tracks
Only You Make Me Happy: Lyrics play a big part in making a song stick in your head: I won’t be forgetting “Elvis is dead… but my King is alive!” for a while!
