My Favourite Picture – May 2006

By May, I was signed up for another walk along the Camino de Santiago in Spain and knew that I needed to start getting into shape to cope with walking the 100 miles from O’Cebreiro to Santiago de Compostela (I have blogged extensively about my two expeditions along that route).

One opportunity was the North Downs Challenge Walk, rambling through about twelve miles of Kent countryside with my friend, John. I took several photos that I was pleased with on that day, which you can see grouped together as a set on Flickr. You can even view them laid out on a map, to give an approximate idea of the route we took.

I regret that I didn’t get this picture of a tree, in a sloping meadow, a little bit larger and a little bit sharper. However, it still stands out as my favourite photo from May. The diagonal division between blue sky and the green meadow (speckled with yellow flowers) is very strong. The tree, which is itself greenish in colour, breaks into the division between the two sections and holds them together.

I may do the walk again this year. If the skies are clear then perhaps I will be able revisit this image with my new camera and achieve an even stronger result.
