The Ordinary

Here we are, finally at the start of December and the final stretch of the year. Granted that it is still only part-way through the morning but it does not seem particularly different from yesterday.

That prompted me to dig back through my cuttings and clippings on del.icio.us and pull out something I filed a couple of months ago: Reading the Everyday by John Davies (PDF file).

The opening line is:

In a society obsessed by all things new and exotic, could it be that greater nourishment lies in the deeply ordinary?

As we draw into the season of Advent, with the retail world trying to beguile us to part with our money by waving all manner of shiny novelties in front of us, it seems a timely article to read or re-read.
