What Do You Really Look Like?

In the film The Matrix, there’s a scene where Neo asks Morpheus why his representation in the computer world looks like he does in real-life (bar the ugly datajack points). The answer is “residual self-image” – he looks the way he thinks he looks.

For some reason, this idea came floating back into my mind as I walked home for lunch today. If people around me looked the way they think they look, what would they look like to me? What about if they looked the way they’d like to look (a parade of glorious forms?)? What about if they looked the way they feel inside (that could be scary!)?

Perhaps heaven will be full of people looking the way they want to look; perhaps here and now is the time where we chisel out that shape by the character we cultivate and the choices we make?
