Steve Lawson’s blog has turned me onto a treasure trove of thought provoking reading on Mark Thomas’ website. Mark is a comedian but carries that calling much further than taking cheap shots at the mother-in-law. Perhaps I could go so far as to suggest that Mark, and others like him, are in some ways equivalent to Biblical prophets in modern society?

From what we can glean through the pages of the Bible, I’m not absolutely convinced that Isaiah, Jeremiah, Amos and the others would necessarily make us laugh. However, comedians with a social conscience and some political savvy can certainly take their words and cut to the heart of issues that matter.
