Jane and I were delighted to see a hummingbird hawk-moth in our garden yesterday, feeding from our lavender bushes. No pictures; we almost lost it between Jane spotting it and calling me out and, anyway, sometimes it is good to observe and enjoy rather than merely capturing a visual impression of a moment. I don’t think I have seen one of these beautiful creatures in the garden before and, if they become frequent visitors, I would love to photograph one but yesterday I wanted to see it rather than risk missing it while fiddling with lenses and settings.
