For my gigs with the concert bands, a bow tie is typically part of the uniform. I’ve been trying to make do with the cheat bow tie I’ve had for years. It is a pre-tied one but I find it awkward to fasten and unreliable over time. It seems quite happy to rotate up to 90° over the course of an evening.
I’ve now gone ahead and bought myself a ‘proper bow tie’. Now the process of learning to tie it. It is taking some time as I try to figure out which parts of the many methods I’ve looked at are essential to get just right and which I have some slack on. Maybe a lighter colour would have been easier? Black is the colour I need but it is hard to see what is going on in artificial light.
Still, it will be a little while until the next gig so I’ve got time to persist.
