We’ve had a few reasonably dry days and it hasn’t been too cold, so I decided to press on with my water engineering in the back garden. After last month’s post, I’d ended up buying some 40mm black PVC pipe and connectors. I don’t think I’m going to run into problems with the bore being too narrow on that! I’d got as far as linking the sections together and running the length of the garden but it wasn’t properly supported and wasn’t plumbed in.
This afternoon, I took a few fence posts which had been used in construction of part of the scenery for Legally Blonde. A lot of the material was due to be dumped so, while clearing up, I asked if I could take them away. Those I chopped into lengths to support the pipe at various points along its length. I didn’t try driving them into the ground but drove in a stake alongside each one. Screwed together and with the large cross section of the posts, that will be stable enough.
I also managed to fit a couple of sections of large bore hosing together from old water butt connections. That was enough to bridge the gap and save me having to buy an additional pipe length. Testing suggests it works without leaking and gives a good flow for excess rainwater to the canal. Roll on the next dose of heavy rain (forecast for Friday morning at the moment)!
