This morning, our Toddlers group at church had their harvest celebration. We moved into the church for this one rather than the hall we normally use and I brought along my electric guitar instead of a ukulele. I only got the running order when I turned up and one of the songs was a piece I’d not heard before (Someone’s Brought a Loaf of Bread).
Those “you hum it and I’ll play it” moments can be quite daunting. The trick is to try the obvious chords and get the big picture right. Fortunately, like most of the songs sung with young children, it is pretty straightforward. My stab at it was I I I I V V V V I I I I IV V I I (so all E, B and A – the I, V and IV chords in the key of E) and that worked just fine for what was needed.
Hurrah for the simple songs!
