Today I have mainly been wrangling my collection of wooden pallets, selecting, adjusting and refining. The aim? A pair of compost bins for the allotment and, although it took a while, I’ve now the pieces I need lined up – two sides, two backs, one central divider and a number of wooden stakes to help tie it into the ground.

That’s the woodwork done; tomorrow comes the hard work of setting it up and then starting to fill the first bay with some of the weeds growing on the patch at the moment.
