This sketch was one of a couple I did at Steve Lawson’s 20th anniversary gig back in December. This was from the second set, the ‘Illuminated Loops’ concept with Poppy Porter. She is an artist who is also synaesthetic, an uncommon neurological cross-wiring which means, in her case, that she experiences colours and shapes in response to music. On stage with Steve, he plays some music, she draws what she sees and he plays a musical response to the visuals, resulting in an evolving visual and aural improvisation.
My eyes were caught by the loops and curls formed by the paper forming below Poppy’s drawing, which is what I sketched here.
