Tonight, we showed a family film at church – The Star (2017) – and, although I’d mainly gone along to help out, I was delighted to find that I enjoyed the movie too.
To be honest, I hadn’t expected much from the trailer. Reasonable animation and a collection of slapstick comedy moments that didn’t seem to have much bearing on the Christmas story. In practice, it turned out to have humour but also much more depth than I had anticipated: reflections on love, friendship and the cost of following a calling, which is far from a guarantee of an easy road.
A good choice and one I would seek out to watch again.
