I think today was my first professional driving gig, using the IT services van to help ferry around various bits of kit between various locations around town. I had the years of driving experience and clean driving license… but nobody told me it was an automatic!

My own car is manual (stick shift) but I have driven an automatic before – about twenty years ago. Mind you, it would have been even more daunting if I’d had 25+ years of experience driving automatic and nobody told me it was a manual.

Fortunately, all worked out okay – even the end of the journey where I had to line up for reversing into the parking space with an expensive looking Porsche parked in a less than intelligent spot opposite!
