Holly (Ilex) and ivy (Hedera) are the two plants most commonly celebrated at Christmas but this lovely example of Sorbus vilmorinii from the back garden looks like it could be a contender. Or, at least it would do if Christmas was in early November when this photo was taken – the plant is barer now.

Ah well, at least the image is good for the season even if the plant itself has passed its peak of glory.
