I’ve met a small handful of bishops in my time but I don’t think I’ve previously had a chance to get to know a bishop before they took up the crozier. That’s why Jane and I made a trip down to London today to see our friend, Philip Mounstephen (now +Philip), become consecrated as Bishop of Truro in the grand setting of St Paul’s.
I think this is my first time inside the cathedral itself (although I once went to an event in the crypt underneath) and I seized the opportunity to make a quick sketch in felt tip. It is quite loose but I think I’ve managed to capture something of the overwhelming grandeur of the place – to see the top of the dome, you need to look up from the people around you, shifting the perspective.
I’m used to drawing in churches but not in such massive ones.
