In a brief addendum to my post earlier this week, my phone problem is now solved. I took the broken phone down to a repair shop in Oxford but they weren’t able to fix it, despite trying to reload the software and the poking around on the motherboard (glad I didn’t try a DIY approach on this one).

I decided to pick up a refurbished Nokia 6, the next model up from the Nokia 5 I had. Not the cheapest of solutions (I’ll have to see if there was a warranty I can claim on the broken one) but at least I’ve got my carry round tool again.
