Today, I’d planned to pop down to the Ashmolean Museum at lunchtime and sketch some of the Barbara Hepworth sculptures they have in the modern art gallery I discovered last week. Unfortunately, that turned out to be the one gallery that was closed to access today!
All was not lost though as, just outside the gallery, is a display of 20th century ceramics. I didn’t recognise the names of any of the artists but it did give me something to sketch and thus appreciate more deeply than just objects to walk past on the way to my destination. It also gave me time to enjoy another gallery of paintings by Walter Sickert and the early 20th century ‘Camden’ group of artists which I’d also breezed past.
So, my plans went to pot(s and paintings) and all was not lost.
