I should note that a free event at the Sheldonian in Oxford comes with the cost of seats that don’t quite meet modern health, safety and comfort standards. However, it was worth it to hear an event organised by NDPH, featuring Nick Davies and Alan Rusbridger (both with decades of journalistic experience) discussing the subject of fake news and where it comes from. Propaganda, social media and traditional media were cited as primary sources in what was a fascinating if not entirely optimistic talk.
Although, if I am to take the encouragement to ask awkward questions to heart, was it not alwey oon and evere was that the press was fundamentally driven by what produced the most profit for the press owner?
