Last week, I mentioned how I often feel different about my sketches once I have worked them up in to paintings. Today, driving down Cowley Road, I mused on how it also changes how I see and feel about places I have drawn.
I was just coming past the Christian Life Centre (formerly the Bingo hall and, before that, a cinema), where I did some sketching last month while waiting for Jane to pick me up once evening. They weren’t brilliant sketches but I realised that I felt a previously unrealised connection with the spot. I’ve done other significant things in the vicinity, like some gigs with The String Project outside the City Arms pub but stopping even for a few minutes to observe and mark those observations with a sketch seems to go deeper much quicker in marking a location in my subconscious map of places.
Certainly an idea to experiment with!
