RSPB Garden Birdwatch

This weekend has been the one picked by the RSPB for their annual garden birdwatch. This is an observational census of the birds seen in UK gardens and allows estimates of populations of different species and how that is changing over time.

It isn’t a competition to see who can spot most birds. However I suspect that, like us, many participants want to give a good representation of what they typically see in their garden. You have periods that are bustling and others without a feathered visitor in sight. We did our initial watch on Sunday afternoon but, having been out for a walk, it was a bit late and the count was low. However, we spotted that the period (27 – 29 January) continued until this morning, and that was a much better time to be counting.
