Not slimming (although I may be thinking about that after the coming feast season) but day length. Today is the Winter Solstice and the official day length is 7 hours, 49 minutes and 44 seconds. That’s five seconds shorter than yesterday and tomorrow will be three seconds longer than today. In other words, outside the realm of measurement, days have been pretty short for a while in the UK and will continue to be so for a while to come. However, the lengthening of daylight hours will proceed at increasing pace and we’re on the cusp of getting lighter again.
