It has been a little blowy outside today, thanks to the influence of the storm that has been named Doris. Although, in deference to those who live in truly windy places, I recognise that a few twigs scattered on the road and sometimes dropping down a gear on my bike to adjust to the conditions doesn’t constitute a serious weather event.

Apparently, naming storms has been a successful gambit for getting people to pay more attention to them, finding out what is coming their way and even perhaps taking some precautions. Mind you, I wonder what it is like if the storm with your name on comes through town and blows your neighbour’s roof off? That could be awkward!
