3B Bottled

Today was bottling day for my 3B brew. As you can see, I didn’t end up with that much:

Six bottles of beer with homemade labels

The problem is that, brewing a smaller volume means there is a higher proportion of trub – the leftover mix of yeast and detritus that you don’t want in the bottles. There’s beer in there, too, but at some point you have to cut your losses. I poured most of that waste into glasses which are sitting in the fridge. Over time the sediment settles and that at least lets me taste some of the young beer off the top. I think it will be better after conditioning but I seem to have got past the infection problem I had last time.

The silver lining is that, with less bottles, I could create a more elaborate label shape. That will now sit in a box inside in the warm for a couple of weeks and then go into my larder until I’m ready to drink it.
