Based on retail prices, this afternoon’s bit of craft is worth about £37:
Jane wanted some new coasters for tomorrow, when we have guests coming. I selected one of the branches from our firewood collection (pear, I think) and sawed ten slices. They have had a rub down with sandpaper and been treated with oil intended for wooden worktops, which brings out the patterns beautifully.
I suspect the John Lewis ones are more even and smooth, so add a markup to my price for showing that they are genuinely handmade! Not a bad hour or so of work.
