One of my favourite jazz tunes, performed beautifully in the video above by Sarah Vaughan, is Indian Summer (by Al Dubin and Victor Herbert). It’s a good tune for today, with a mid-September heat wave in the UK.
As far as I can tell, ‘Indian summer’ was first used for unseasonably hot autumn weather after early frosts but colloquial UK usage is more flexible and any spell of hot weather in September or October will do for us to break it out.
