Calvin – the six year old boy from Bill Watterson’s Calvin and Hobbes strip cartoons – is funny and endearing; a (fairly) innocent child who likes to think of himself as cynical and cool but whose most endearing characteristic is his vibrant imagination. It takes on a whole different tone when you paste in Donald Trump’s face, not least because Calvin’s words capture Trump’s public persona so well – see Donald and Hobbes.
Calvin is a breath of fresh air in the pages of the comic strip; I’m rather frightened when I think about what it might mean if he gets to live at the White House!
