Duck! No, I don’t mean the bird; I mean this gorgeous piece of 20th Century engineering:

Mallard is an iconic British steam train built in 1938 and achieving a speed record at the time. Its aerodynamic design and bold colour make for an eye-catching design and it was one of those trains I longed to have many years ago when poring over Hornby catalogues was one of my hobbies (I probably spent as long dreaming about what I wanted as playing with the trainset I actually had!).

In real life, when we visited the National Railway Museum in York last year, it turned out to be much larger than I expected and even more impressive. Click on the picture to see the small collection of other pictures I took on that visit.
