Nameless paints sound like something Cthuloid but actually turn out to be a rather interesting set of pigments from Japan. Rather than giving each tube a name, they are described with blobs of primary colour. Of course, that means you have to know a bit about colour theory – you can’t reach for “green” but need the tube with equal blobs of yellow and blue shown on the front. However, it does make it clearer where your pigments fit in the colour spectrum – if you create a mix of all three primaries, you will end up with a muddier result than if you keep somewhere between just two of them.

I suspect they would be hard to find in the UK (I’m not even sure if they are a product or just a design demo) but they are a fascinating – and colourful – idea.
