I’d been keen to review this anthology of science fiction stories which promised to use the genre to explore questions of gods, beliefs and faiths. Sadly though, I got to the end and have to report that nothing particularly stood out to me. It wasn’t that the stories (and poems) were egregiously bad but none of them made a strong connection.
It could be me. “Wrestling with God” is a strong image which takes me back to the Bible (Genesis 32) and Jacob’s life-changing encounter with God; it is a theme I’ve heard expounded many times. Alas, none of the stories in this collection grappled with me or left my hip out of joint.
That doesn’t seem to mesh with other reviews which are largely positive but I’m afraid this one seems to be slipping away leaving my soul unscathed.
