Most prodigious harvest of the year award in my garden looks like it is going to be awarded to the cucumbers in the polytunnel. Other potential contenders, like the tomatoes (just getting into their stride but they would have to outstrip last year’s bumper crop by a long margin) or the medlar (big and fruiting heavily but each fruit is relatively small) will be good in their own right but won’t come close.

We have had 9kg of cucumbers so far with plenty more to come and that isn’t counting the batch we discarded this weekend because we’d let them get too big (the skin gets thicker and more bitter and that flavour starts to seep back into the flesh). Definitely a winner, although we are having to learn more things to eat with cucumber in them!
