The Webden on WordPress

14.04

I like the Ubuntu idea of long-term support editions – reasonably up to date, maintained with security patches but not shifting the foundations too often. The most recent one (Ubuntu 14.04) came out in April and there has been enough time since the release that it is probably a sound choice to start upgrading my servers.

I did the first one yesterday, choosing the virtual machine I use for my own developments. So far, so good. The only major thing I’ve spotted which will require checking is the shift of the default webroot from /var/www to /var/www/html. I see that the default Python version is still the 2.x branch (phew! I’ve got a lot of Python 2 scripts doing various things) although Python 3 also seems to get installed by default (hurrah! I’m working through the transition from 2 to 3 so I’m glad to have a clear landing point).

Anyway, one down…
