It is probably a bit premature to declare the death of Microsoft Windows XP but it has officially passed out of support. For an operating system, it hasn’t had a bad innings but time has moved on. Of course, there are still a certain number of XP machines running out there but I expect all but a very few will soon disappear from visibility on the Internet (hopefully before some new virus causes disastrous problems on machines that aren’t getting further security updates). It is years since I last used it in earnest and I won’t particularly miss it but XP probably deserves a fairly gentle goodbye.
