I was having a hard time sleeping last night, plagued by an odd trio trio of characters (suspiciously similar to some I’d watched earlier in the evening in the latest episode of Endeavour). I found myself drifting back into consciousness and wondering what was alarming me.

That was when I glanced at the bedside clock and noticed both that it was about 1am and also the missing red dot signifying that the morning alarm wasn’t set. Sleep-fuzzed gears clicked round in my head and I reached out to turn the alarm on. I slept much better after that so it seems reasonable to assume that the cause was my back brain trying to alert me.

Score one for the subconscious, even if it is rather dramatic in its presentation!
