Today seems like a good idea to ignore the news or at least to treat anything published with an extra degree of scepticism. Unfortunately, the asynchronous nature of the Internet means that April Fools pranks get smeared over a wider time period.

That said, it is wise to treat any source of information with caution; perhaps the foolery of 1 April does have a lasting lesson for us.
