When my head was muzzy the other day, I managed to drop a paperclip on my extension keyboard and then work it underneath the keys as I was trying to hook it out. Sliding it to one end and popping off a few of the key caps was moderately successful except for the fact that I lost track of where the # / ~ key flipped to.
I expect many people could quite happily live without it but its absence was apparent to me when I fired up a Linux session last night. Hitting ~ is a quick way to refer back to your home directory and has become quite ingrained my command line navigation. I can get by using the keyboard on the laptop but, while it may look cool for a keyboard player like Rick Wakeman to reach across for the odd note, it throws off the touch typing!
Time I think to move some furniture.
