Dating myself a little, I can remember when the Dire Straits album Brothers in Arms came out. I remember it often got played on the tape machine in the car and the lyrics became deeply embedded in my mind, including “there should be sunshine after rain” in the track “Why Worry?”
Today has been a pretty wet and gray day but, for now at least, the skies have cleared and, as I am preparing to pack my double bass to take down to church for tonight’s service, I am enjoying the glorious sight of golden light picking out the autumnal colours in nearby trees. In some ways the scene is quite mundane, with plenty of chimneys and aerials and other visual detritus of the local estate, but turn on the glory of the sunlight and even this becomes infused with splendid beauty.
