Since getting my smartphone a couple of years ago, it has been my main choice as a device for in-car navigation. Using Google maps I can plan my journey on a computer, mark out key points and then pick that up on the phone. However, the screen is fairly small and you don’t want to be squinting at a map while driving!
My Nexus 7 has a much larger screen and enough memory to save large chunks of the map for offline use. The challenge has been how to safely mount it for driving. Today I was attending a day on Christian spirituality in Milton Keynes and hit on the idea of hooking the case over the fold-down sun shade built into the car.
Perfect! This puts the screen in the perfect place to provide heads up navigation without obscuring any more of the view than simply using the sunshade itself.
