My weekend harvest of books from the library should provide me a balanced diet. The Seasoned Vegetarian by Simon Rimmer looks like it will have some tasty ideas for using the contents of the weekly veg box we get (from local supplier, Veg in Clover) while The Meat Fix by John Nicholson describes the author’s poorly condition after years of a supposedly healthy vegan diet and the almost instant relief he got from returning to more carnivorous habits.
I have read the latter book but found it too polemical. I think there is a strong argument for meat as an important part of the human diet but Nicholson’s born-again carnivorous fundamentalism becomes wearing. I think he could have made his point just as well with a shorter book and less expletives.
