Thumbs up for Endeavour, ITV’s recently broadcast programme which takes us back to the early years of Inspector Morse’s career and his first case in Oxford. They did brilliantly with the choice of actors (for example, Shaun Evans uses several of the characteristic gestures which John Thaw presented in his portrayal of the mature character), recreating a believable 1960’s Oxford and using both of those as the backdrop for a plot that is fully up to the standard of the best Morse stories told so far.

As an extra bonus, I recognised an alleyway Morse walked down seconds before the Lamb and Flag pub sign came into view. It’s like I’ve lived here for years!
