Somewhere round about the time I cooked dinner last night I realised that I had sciatica. Or, more precisely, I felt fine before I started but by the time I had finished, I was aware of a pain on the right side of the back of my pelvis. This morning, with the pain still persisting, the word sciatica popped into mind and a quick bit of searching confirmed (a) that this was probably the case and (b) that, while undoubtably painful, it probably wasn’t worth rushing straight off to my doctor.
Fortunately, I share my office with several medical people, including an experienced physiotherapist who confirmed the diagnosis with a couple of tests. Hopefully this will only be a temporary and non-recurring occurence; while far from debilitating (current NHS advice seems to be to stay active) it is also a long way from pleasant!
