Yesterday’s carol service at St Clement’s came together brilliantly. The hard work of rehearsing and practising paid off and we moved smoothly through the lessons and carols with the choir producing some beautiful sounds. The children’s orchestra also played their part well, with an arrangement of Good King Wenceslas that allowed wide participation, from those who could just about manage a couple of notes on the recorder up.
I do enjoy Christmas services and perhaps more so as the years roll by. They are cherished with hours of preparation, lit with flickering candlelight and shine with the pregnant hope that God, who stepped into our world as a helpless child, understands icy mud, stink and the perils of our condition. Liminal places indeed.
