We had a shock when we emptied our kitchen bin yesterday and found maggots escaping from a hole in the bottom! Our problem is that we just don’t produce that much rubbish and so it tends to take a fair while for the level to reach the point where we remember to take the bag outside.
We already have other containers for various types of recycling (which is one of the reasons for our low level of “landfill” rubbish). Perhaps we also need to get a tiny “maggot food” bin for things like scraps of meat, that gets emptied very frequently?
Of course, the most disconcerting thing about the whole episode last night was that our meal was peppers stuffed with bloated grains of rice that had been slowly cooked in a rich stock. At least they weren’t moving!
