I needed new shoelaces and bought a pair yesterday at lunchtime. When I got home in the evening and took my shoes off I discovered that both laces had formed stiff knots, which seemed Gordian in their intractability.

Fortunately, a bit of patience and several improvised tools (a letter opener, a pair of tweezers and a screwdriver) served to eventually free the knots but it looks like I will have to take care how I fasten them in future.

These are very skinny laces; I had better add generously thick and easy to untie laces to my Christmas list!
